HYPOTHYROIDISM- UNVEILING THE FACTS REVIEW ARTICLE

. Abstract Hypothyroidism is a disease in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone. It is the second most common endocrine disorder among women. Common causes are autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto‘s thyroiditis, surgical removal of the thyroid and radiation therapy. Iodine deficiency remains the commonest cause of Hypothyroidism in worldwide. There are some indications that Hypothyroidism could arise from viral infection, lifestyle disorders, environmental factors or even diet related issues like food preservatives. One of these factors disturb the mechanism of thyroid gland function and results in altered secretions of thyroid hormones.
