MANAGEMENT OF EKA KUSHTA-A CASE STUDY

. Abstract Introduction: Skin is vital and largest organ of the human body. It is the mirror image which reflects the harmony of internal functions of the body. Any change in the skin disturbs the patient both mentally and physically. Aetiologies such as unhealthy life style, psychological alterations and immune compromised status lead too many skin diseases. Eka Kushta is one among Kshudra Kushtas described in Ayurveda which is one of the most dreadful dermatological conditions causing cosmetic disfigurements with social embarrassment. Signs and symptoms of eka Kushtas explained in Ayurveda, have similar features of Psoriasis. Modern treatment modalities are not devoid from grave mainly on long term use. Owing to these, there is a need Modern treatment modalities are not devoid from grave complications for efficacious treatment protocol with least toxicity profile. Thus, Ayurvedic line of management consisting of Shodana and Shamana therapies helps in management of eka kushta by halting the disease progression and avoiding recurrence. Methodology: References regarding eka kushta are studied from different ayurvedic treatises, journals, websites etc. A Patient diagnosed as eka kushta treated with shodhana and shamana therapy and changes are observed and noted. Result: Repeated shodhana and shaman chikitsa as per classics after analysing dosha awastha in patient help to manage the condition of eka koshta by halting the disease progression and avoiding recurrence. Discussion: Eka Kustha has to be treated, based on parameters of dosha awastha, involvement of dhatus, chronicity and associated complications. With repeated shodhana therapy in regular intervals followed by shaman chikitsa and Pathya Vivechana, results in successfully combating the disease eka kushta.
