Abstract

AN OPEN COMPARATIVE CLINICAL STUDY OF RASNA SUNTHYADI KASHAYA AND RASNA PANCHAKA KWATHA IN JANUSANDHIGATA VATA W.S.R TO OSTEOARTHRITIS OF KNEE JOINT

Abstract

Sandhigata vata is one amoung vata vyadhi, Vata is the predominant dosha responsible for the manifestation of the vyadhi, it mainly affects in old age people and even it is prevalent in younger generation. It is caused by either dhatu kshaya or due to margavarana by meda dhatu and kapha dosha. The symptoms includes joint pain, stiffness, swelling, tenderness and restricted movements of the joints. Acharya has explained treatment modalities as shodhana and shamana, where in shamana chikista pacifies aggravated vata dosha, alleviates shotha as well as shoola and other symptoms. On this basis the Rasna sunthyadi kashaya and Rasna panchaka kwatha are being selected for comparative study, as shamana chikitsa in Sandhigatavata. Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Rasna sunthyadi kahaya and Rasna panchaka kwatha in sandhigata vata w.s.r osteoarthritis thereby comparing the therapeutic effect in management of januandhigata vata w.s.r to osteoarthitis. Methodology: An open labelled controlled clinical study with pre-test and post-test, 30 patients of Janusandhigata vata diagnosed as per guidelines of ayurvedic texts and contemporary science are randomly categorized under two groups namely group I and group II with 15 patients each. A proforma was prepared, where all points of history taking, signs and symptoms of Osteoarthritis along with laboratory investigations as per Ayurveda & contemporary science. Result: Statistically significant results were observed in both the Groups. Overall effect of both groups showed mild remission in 13.33%, moderate remission in 86.66% in the present study. Conclusion: Thus, both the group showed significant improvement in the conditions of the patient in reducing the symptoms of Janusandhigatavata.
