ACHIEVE HEALTHY AGING WITH AYURVEDA

Abstract The purpose of this review art icle is to show the rich medicinal diversi ty of Ayurveda for aged people. The mean l i fe expectancy has changed signif icant ly in the past decades. The growing number of older people has al ready made a signi ficant impact on the heal th care system as wel l as the socioeconomic condi t ion of the count ry. Signi ficant improvement in l i fe exp ectancy level was visible in the 20th century in the last 50 yr . In India the populat ion of older person in the last 50 yr. of 20 th century increases f rom 19.6 mi l l ion to 77.6 mi l l ion in 2000. In the next 50 yr . the populat ion of older person is expected t o go up to 324 mi l l ion. Ayurvedic system of medicine is probably the first which ef for ts to protect l ife f rom disease and aging. Ayurveda describe much about the science of gerontology and Rasayana therapy. Rasayana Tantra is one of the eight major cl inic al discipl ines of Ayurveda, which exclusively devoted to the study of aging and i ts prevent ion.
