Abstract

EKAMOOLIKA DRAVYA PRAYOGAM IN RAKTA PRADARAM: A CASE REPORT

Abstract

Background: Rakta Pradaram is a condition where there is excessive flow of menstrual blood associated with body ache and abdominal pain, which is caused by vata and pitta dosas. Nowadays, it is more common in OPD with various causative factors which affects woman irrespective of their age. When timely treatment is not given, it leads to complications like dourbalyam, bramam, tamas, trsha, daha, pralapa, pandu, tandra and sopham. Rakta Pradaram can be co-related with AUB, which is a broad-spectrum term that describes menstrual irregularities involving frequency, duration, volume of flow outside pregnancy. AUB impacts women’s health related quality of life (HRQoL). and puts a heavy economic burden on society. The prevalence of AUB among reproductive aged women internationally is estimated to be between 3% and 30% with the higher incidence occurring around menarche and peri-menopause. In modern, conservative treatment, D&C, hormone therapy, IUCD, MIS (Minimal invasive surgery) and finally hysterectomy is done, which gives rise to certain post complications of the surgery in future. To prevent this and improve the quality of life, Ekamoolika Dravya Prayoga plays a vital role in treating it cost effectively. Aims & Objectives: To control the excessive menstrual bleeding by giving Ekamoolika Dravya Prayoga which is both beneficial and cost effective. Materials & Methods: A patient of 38years with complaints of Rakta Pradaram was selected and given Baboola Niryasa as Ekamoolika Dravya for 3 consecutive menstrual cycles, and a follow up period of 3 months without the medicine. Result: Patient responded well to the treatment. Number of days of bleeding, number of pads, PBAC score (Pictorial Blood Assessment Chart) were reduced significantly. Conclusion: Ekamoolika Dravya Prayogam - Baboola Niryasa was found to be beneficial and cost effective in treating Rakta Pradaram.
