“A REVIEW ON POTTALI KALPANAâ€

. Abstract Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine originated in India, encompasses a diverse range of therapeutic techniques aimed at promoting holistic well being. Among its various branches, Rasa Shastra stands out as a specialized field focusing on the preparation of metallic and mineral based medicines. Pottali kalpana, within the realm of Rasa Shastra, involves the meticulous creation of medicated bundles or poultices. These bundles or Pottalis are crafted by combining processed metals, minerals and herbal ingredients. Pottali kalpana is one of such highly potent, concise dosage form in Ayurveda. The main ingredients are the amalgam of mercury and sulphur, which is treated with different plant material and ultimately given a compact form by the application of natural binder. The intension is to harness the synergistic therapeutic potential of these components to address specific health concerns. The short review describe about the history, necessity, classification, preparation and mode of application of the Pottali kalpana, a unique Ayurvedic pharmaceutical dosage form.
