Abstract

A CASE STUDY ON EFFECTIVELY MANAGING AMLAPITTA

Suman Meena* and Pradeep Kumar Meena

.

Abstract

The derangement of Agni in the Amashaya (stomach) region, caused by various factors, leads to the condition known as Amlapitta. Common Pitta-aggravating factors include fasting, irregular meal timings, anxiety, haste, and the consumption of spicy foods. These elements disrupt the Pachaka Pitta, comprising digestive enzymes, leading to the manifestation of Amlapitta. Amlapitta is characterized by the improper utilization or excessive production of Hydrochloric acid (HCl) in the stomach, resulting in gastric inflammation, known as gastritis. This condition can interfere with the digestive processes, causing harm to the soft tissue lining the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. If not addressed promptly, it may progress to ulceration. Normally, the esophageal sphincter muscle prevents stomach acid from refluxing into the esophagus. However, dysfunction of this muscle can lead to heartburn symptoms, known as Gastroesophageal reflux. Due to changes in lifestyle and dietary habits, gastrointestinal disorders have become prevalent, with Amlapitta being a commonly encountered ailment. This article presents a case study of a 40-year-old male exhibiting signs and symptoms of Urdhwaga Amlapitta. The patient underwent treatment with Ayurvedic medicines and adhered to Ayurvedic principles based on Rogavastha and Doshavastha. This case study underscores the efficacy of Ayurveda, demonstrating evidence-based treatments. The patient, diagnosed with Urdhwaga Amlapitta, experienced significant and consistent improvement in his symptoms through the application of Shamana Aushadhi tailored to his Prakruti, Dosha, Dhatu, and Mala.

Keywords: Amlapitta, Amashaya, Rogavastha, Doshavastha, Prakruti.
