OPTIMISING BILWADI LEHYA STANDARDISATION: INCORPORATING ADDITIONAL PARAMETERS BEYOND API GUIDELINES

. Abstract Introduction: Standardization of a medication involves a meticulous procedure to guarantee its quality, purity, and consistency across various pharmaceutical formulations. Bilwadi lehya is one among the avaleha preparations mentioned in Sahasrayoga indicated for various ailments related with gastrointestinal system. Aim and objective: The primary objective of the work was to optimise the standardisation of Bilwadi lehya, encompassing additional parameters beyond those specified in the API (Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia of India). Materials and methods: Three batches of Bilwadi lehya were prepared as per the guidelines of API and various quality control parameters of the samples were evaluated. Results: Physico chemical parameters like ash values, extractive values, total sugar and reducing sugar etc were evaluated in three batches. TLC profiling and heavy metal analysis of the sample were also done. An attempt was made to standardise the process or paka of Avaleha using Brix value. Conclusion: The present work tried to optimise the standardisation of Bilwadi lehya by incorporating additional quality control parameters like Brix value.
