APPREHENSION OF AMA THROUGH DIFFERENT LEVELS OF METABOLISM

Abstract

Every organ, tissue, cell has to undergo process of constant changes to meet the survival, need & ambition in the world. Always a process or a chain reaction starts and ends upto attaining certain form either in synthetic process (anabolic) or in decaying process (catabolic), which is capable of carrying a function an inherent factor in existing, termed as Agni in Ayurveda. If this process of transformation gets hindrance due to any causative factors, then that state is called Ama, which is a state of substance resulting in the process of transformation but not attained finality. It is a qualitative and quantitative conditions of a substance involved in the Physico- chemical process, which is formed at different level of Jataragnipaaka, Bhootagnipaaka and Dhatwagnipaaka. When this process of paaka is not completed, the ultimate function of that srotas or tissue hampers its function resulting in a disease, thus the ama has got a vital role in pathogenesis of disease. The concept of Ama is a unique one which helped in understanding the disease and classifying all the disorders into two categories viz., sama and Niramarogas.
