A CASE STUDY OF NIMB TAILA KARNAPOORANA IN OTOMYCOSIS

Abstract

Karnasrava is the condition characterized by discharge from Karna and occurs mainly due to Avarana of Vata Dosha. Karnasrava is one among the 28 types of karnagata rogas explained by Acharya Sushruta. In contemporary science, this condition can be correlated with Otomycosis, popularly known as Swimmer's ear. Otomycosis denotes diffuse otitis externa due to fungal infection in ear which is very common disease, especially in tropical and subtropical areas with the symptoms of intense itching, pain in the ear, watery discharge and ear blockage. These fungi are commonly Aspergillus and Candida. Treatment of Karnasrava is explained by Sushruta i.e. Karnadoopana, Karnapoorana, Prakshaalana etc.
