A LITERATURE REVIEW ON ROLE OF DOSHAS IN THE PATHOGENESIS OF VATAJ TIMIR W.S.R TO ARMD
Dr. Gayathri Padmanabh Kamath*
. Abstract The eye is an important and one of the most complex sensory organs that we humans are bestowed with. The deterioration of vision in elderly people is a major health problem. Aging of the eye affects all structures of eye. The prevalence of ARMD is rising due to rise in aged population. Age related macular degeneration is a vision threatening disease which is a degenerative disease affecting man in fifth decade or onward. It is caused by irreversible damage of macula in old and risked patients like arteriosclerosis, smoking, Hypertension, DM etc. In fact ARMD appears to result from a combination of hereditary, environmental, and metabolic factors.[1] Clinical features of ARMD imitate Vataja Timira. Ayurveda has significant role to play in the treatment of ARMD in both dry and wet types. In Ayurvedic texts, Vataj Timir occurs due to imbalance of three Doshas either individually or in combination. An integrative approach, taking into account the knowledge of both Ayurveda and Biomedicine, to find the role of doshas in its pathogenesis will help to manage this problem. The integrative approach need to be based upon pathophysiological correlations between both systems. Keywords: ARMD, Age Related Macular Degeneration, Vataja Timira, Netra, Tarpana, Pathogenesis, Doshas. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
