PREPARATION OF NAGRADI EYE DROPS: AN AYURVEDIC FORMULATION FOR COMPUTER VISION SYNDROME

Abstract

Introduction: Computers become an integral part of our life. The increased usage of computers have leads to variety of ocular symptoms which include eye strains, tired eye, irritation, redness, blurred vision and diplopia are known as Computer vision syndrome. Nagradi eye drops is used to manage CVS. Material and Methods: Nagradipreparation is indicated in eye diseases of which is mentioned inAstanghridya, contains the ingredients Zingiber officinalis (Nagar), Terminalia chebula Retz. (Haritaki), Emblica officinalis Linn. (Amalaki), terminaliabellarica (vibhitaki), azadarchita indica(nimb), Adhotavasica (vasa), Symplocus racemose(lodhra). The Naagradieye drops was prepared by using modern pharmaceuticals equipment. During the process of preparation, the method of preparation of Arka according to The Ayurvedic Formulary of India was followed. Result: Nagradi eye drops are effective in managing CVS. Discussion: constant staring on computer screen without blinking for long time leads to evaporation of lipid layer that makes the tear film unstable which causes vitiation of Pitta Dosha and produce dry eyes sensation and redness in eyes. In Nagradi eye drops all drugs having Vata-Pitta Shaman, Vata Anulomana, Chakshushya, Varna Ropana, Deepan, Vedna Sthapana, Rasayana properties due to these properties it is effective in CVS.
