Abstract

Garbhasthapana dravyas are those which after counteracting the effect of harmful factors that is garbhopaghatakara bhavas for foetus help in its proper maintainence. According to ashtanga sangraha indu theeka it is said that use of garbhasthapana dravyas prevents abortion. Acharya kashyapa also advised that the use of garbhasthapana dravyas for maintenance of proper health, growth and development of mother and foetus. Ksheera or ghrita medicated with drugs mentioned as prajasthapana and jeevaneeya in shadvirechana shatashriteeya adhyaya of charaka samhita sutrasthana are beneficial. The bath with cold decoction of these drugs during pushya nakshtra said to be beneficial. Amulet of these drugs tied in head or right arm. Acharya kashyapa also enumerated list of garbhasthapaka dravyas in kashayapa samhita khilasthana 10th chapter, these drus should be uprooted with enchantation of mantras and tied as amulet during pushya nakshtra. The use of amulet of trivrit tied in waist of pregnant women also beneficial. The drugs mentioned in masanumasika garbhasrava and garbha chalana chikitsa are also used for the prevention of abortion. Following samanya and masanumasika garbhini paricharya and avoiding garbhopaghatakara bhavas helps in prevention of abortion. Pumsavana karma helps in conception, implantation and also prevents abortion. Other than ksheera and ghrita preparations of single and combination of drugs yogas like phalaghrita, dhatryadi ghrita, kasherukadi ksheera paka, kushadi ksheerapaka, kashervadi churna some patent medicines are also helpful for the prevention of abortion.
