. Abstract A set of compounds labelled as 2-{3’-[(2’’’,5’’’-dioxoimidazol-1’’’Hidine) 4’’’-ylidene]methylene} 1’H-indol-1’-yl-N- arylethanamide derivatives (6a-6i) were synthesised using Knoevenagel condensation method. This involved reacting 2-(3-formyl-1H-indol-1-yl)-Narylethanamide derivatives (4a-4i) with imidazolidine-2,4-dione (5). All the synthesized compounds were characterized using advanced analytical techniques, including Mass Spectrometry, Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy. The compounds have been screened for antimicrobial activity against gram positive bacteria Bacillus subtilis & Staphylococcus epidermidis and gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa & Proteus vulgaris. The anti-fungal activity was evaluated against Aspergillus niger. The activity of the compounds were compared with known standards such as streptomycin and nystatin. Keywords: Indole-3-carbaldehyde, imidazolidine-2,4-dione, Knoevenagel condensation, Antimicrobial activity. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
