Dr. Shrilatha Kamath and *Dr. Lokeshwari S.
. Abstract Amavata is a chronic disorder that has both skeletal and extra skeletal manifestations. The chief pathogenic constituents are ama and vata which simultaneously affect the joints and cause stiffness of the body. Based on the clinical presentation, RA (Rheumatoid arthritis) shows more resemblance with Amavata. RA is a chronic progressive diseasecausing inflammation in the joints and resulting in painful deformity and immobility, especially in the fingers, wrists, feet and ankles. Monoarticular presentation of rheumatoid arthritis is infrequent and has been previously reported to involve large joints such as the hip and knee joints. Ayurveda has given a detail description regarding the management of Amavata which includes Langana (procedure like fasting etc), Swedana (sudation), Deepana(appetizing) with Tiktha katu rasa etc. After analysing the treatment principle of Amavata mentioned by Acharya Chakradatta, in this case study patient was given Vaitrana Basti, valuka Swedana, Upanaha Sweda and Shamana Chikitsa. Panchkarma procedures along with internal medications showed good result in the improvement of overall symptoms but also there was significant reduction in RA factor and CRP values in this case of Amavata (Monoarticular Rheumatoid arthritis). Keywords: Monoarticular, Amavata, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Vaitharana Basti, Autoimmune. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
