FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF PANDANUS ODORATISSIMUS L EXTRACT FOR TREATMENT OF NOCTURNAL ENURESIS AS ORODISPERSIBLE TABLETS DELIVERY SYSTEM

Abstract

The objective of the present study was to prepare Pandanus Odoratissimus L as Orodispersible tablets ODTs delivery system which used for treatment Nocturnal Enuresis. Nocturnal enuresis is defined as the involuntary passage of urine during sleep in a child aged five years and above in the absence of any congenital or acquired defects of the renal or nervous system. Plants are widely used in traditional and folklore medicine. Use of medicinal plants and their products are almost doubled over the last decade in developing countries and the present trend of wide spread interest in alternative therapies is well known. Pandanus Odoratissimus L is used in traditional systems of medicine to treat Nocturnal Enuresis. Orodispersible tablets ODTs are disintegrating or dissolve rapidly in the saliva without the need for water. Such formulations provide an opportunity for product line expansion in the many elderly persons will have difficulties in taking conventional oral dosage forms also are common in young individuals because of their underdeveloped muscular and nervous systems. Six formulations Orodispersible tablets ODTs were prepared by wet granulation method by using β- cyclodextrin, sodium starch glycolate and sodium and crospovidone as superdisintegrants. The tablets were evaluated for weight variation, hardness, friability, in-vitro disintegration time, assay and in-vitro dissolution study. Hardness and friability data indicated good mechanical strength of tablets. Among the all formulations the F3 formulation according to the drug release was found to be 59.792% at 5minutes and disintegration time within 22 seconds indicated that the tablets ODTs dispersed rapidly in the mouth. It was concluded that F3 is the best formulation of Pandanus Odoratissimus L extract Orodispersible tablets ODTs delivery system.
