A REVIEW ON FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF FAST DISINTEGRATING TABLET OF HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE
Nagaveni Pommala* and Padmaja Noti
. Abstract The present review is about fast disintegrating tablet of hydrochlorothiazide. It is an antihypertensive drug which acts as diuretic. The rising demand for fast disintegrating tablets for over the past decade can be attributed to their convenience, especially for patients who may have difficulty in swallowing traditional tablets. Factors such as improved patient compliance, ease of administration, and enhanced bioavailability contribute to the growing popularity of these formulations in the pharmaceutical industry. Fast disintegrating tablets are designed to dissolve or disintegrate rapidly in the mouth without the need for additional water. The fast disintegrating tablet of hydrochlorothiazide was prepared by using direct compression method. To enhance the bioavailability of hydrochlorothiazide, it is formulated as a fast-disintegrating tablet since the drug has a 50-60% absorption rate and undergoes hepatic metabolism. The choice of super disintegrates and their concentrations should be optimized to achieve the desired disintegration time and drug friability and in-vitro drug release. Keywords: Crospovidone, Croscarmellose, Fast disintegrating tablets, Hydrochlorothiazide, Sodium starch glycolate. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
