“AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF DIABETIC FOOT ULCER WITH DHOOPAN KARMA AND ITS EFFICACY-A SINGLE CASE STUDYâ€
Dr. Gajiram D. Banothe*, Dr. Chandrakant S. Pawar and Dr. Shalaka M. More
. Abstract Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) represents one of the extreme pathophysiological consequences of diabetes, often caused by bacterial infections, commonly E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and S. aureus. Nearly 12– 25% of individuals with diabetes are prone to developing diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), which may necessitate lower leg amputation. Dushta Vrana, as mentioned in Ayurvedic texts, closely resembles diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). This case report focuses on a 60-year-old male patient with a diabetic foot ulcer on the dorsal aspect of the great toe of the left foot. He had diabetes mellitus type II and had been on medication for 3 years. The wound, managed by Doopana, enhances healing by reducing symptoms such as Strava, Shool, and Durgandhi. Dhoomvarti possesses properties like Vedana Sthapana and Vrana Shodhana, thereby reducing pain and microbial load, ultimately promoting wound healing. This treatment approach resulted in complete wound healing within 1 month. Keywords: Doopana, Dushta Vrana, Diabetic foot ulcer, Dhoomvarti. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
