. Abstract Based on phytochemical analysis, it is concluded that the methanolic extract of Acorus calamus Linn Rhizome possess phytocompounds such as Alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, tannins and volatile oils. The presence of those phytocompounds were confirmed with TLC analysis using standards such as Quercetin. Based on animal behavioral studies, it is concluded that the methanolic extract of Acorus calamus Linn Rhizome at the dose (25 and 50 mg/kg (p.o.) showed a significant antianxiety and antidepressant effect in alcohol withdrawn mice. Further studies are required to ascertain the bioactive principles responsible for this activity. Keywords: Acorus calamus Linn, Animal behavioral studies, Alcohol withdrawn, Phytocompounds, antianxiety and antidepressant effect. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
