Abstract

Skin is a mirror that reflects external and internal pathology, and thus helps in diagnosis of disease. The beauty and attraction of individual depends upon skin’s health including physical and psychological health. switra is having aparisravi swetamandala i.e nonexudative skin disorder.it is a cosmetic problem and the change in appearance caused by this condition can affect a person’s emotional and psychological well-being. In Ayurveda, Switra is a Twak vikara, caused by vitiation of all the tridosha and rasa, rakta, mamsa and meda dhatu. In modern it is correlated to vitiligo, it is acquired condition, in this disorder due to loss or decrease in the melanocytes in epidermis, characterized by sharply circumscribed chalky white spots on the body. It affects 1% of population worldwide. vitiligo involves focal areas of melanocytes loss.
