AN OVERVIEW OF TERMINALIA CHEBULA

. Abstract Ayurveda, which uses herbs and particular diets, is now regarded as Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The balance of the body, mind, and spirit is integrated through ayurvedic medicine. It is founded on theories of wellness and disease, as well as methods for managing or treating health issues. Since the beginning of civilization, medicinal plants have been used to treat illnesses. Terminalia chebula Known as the "King of Medicine," consistently ranks at the top of the list of "Ayurvedic systems" due to its exceptional healing capacity. The entire plant has long been used to cure various human illnesses because of its significant medicinal value. Folklorists have utilized this plant to treat various ailments, including asthma, sore throats, bleeding piles, ulcers, gout, heart and bladder diseases, diarrhea, and dysentery. Hepatioprotective, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antiproliferative, radioprotective, cardioprotective, anti-arthritic, anticaries, gastrointestinal motility and wound healing activity are just a few of the many pharmacological and therapeutic properties that the plant has been shown to exhibit. However, no systematic, up-to-date research on the therapeutic efficacy of Terminalia chebula, a well-liked herbal treatment in South-East Asia and India, has yet been revealed. The current information in this review is focused on Terminalia chebula Retz. and some of its isolated components' phytochemistry, various pharmacological and therapeutic qualities, as well as an assessment of their safety.
