A REVIEW ARTICLE ON: ONION (ALLIUM CEPA) OIL FOR HAIR AS A HAIR GROWTH STIMULANT

. Abstract Onion (Allium cepa L.) oil has garnered attention for its potential hair growth stimulating property, primarily attributed to its rich sulfur content, essential for collagen production. Collagen plays a crucial role in renewing skin and hair, suggesting that onion oil could improve hair health and stimulate growth by enhancing scalp circulation and stimulating hair follicles. Onion is a traditional Indian spices that consist of vitamins, proteins and minerals. Due to the presence of rich amounts of sulfur, zinc and iron, onion oil shows anti-dandruff, antimicrobial, antiparasitic activity and antioxidant properties. It also has anti-inflammatory activity. Since onion oil nourishes the hair root, it is very beneficial for hair development. This article analyzes the scientific evidence by nutrient support and ascertains the mechanism of onion oil as a hair growth stimulator and hair care product. Onion oil needs further evaluation tests in laboratories. Thus, while onion oil could be a beneficial addition to hair care routines for some, expectations should be tempered and personal experience may differ.
