FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF MUCOADHESIVE BUCCAL PATCHES FOR TOOTHACHE FROM SYZYGIUM AROMATICUM EXTRACT
Manjeet Kumar, Jyoti Vaish and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Kushwaha*
. Abstract The aim of research is formulation and characterization of clove (syzygium aromaticum) extract based mucoadhesive buccal patch for dental pain which is called toothache, with the help of different proportions of various polymers like carbopol 934, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and sodium carboxymethylcellulose. The mucoadhesive patches of syzygium aromaticum were prepared by the solvent casting method with suitable solvent like petroleum ether and ethanol. The prepare paches has evaluate for physicochemical parameters such as permeability, thickness, weight variation, drug content, moisture loss, swelling index, surface pH, and In-vitro drug release study. The buccal drug delivery is safe and effective administration for the toothache relief. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is required to confirm the interaction of syzygium aromaticum with polymers and excipients. Various plasticizers, including glycerine and propylene glycol, were incorporated to enhance the flexibility and adhesion of the buccal films. The buccal patches demonstrated promising physicochemical properties and sustained drug release behavior. The use of herbal ingredients such as syzygium aromaticum extract may provide a safer and more accessible alternative for toothache relief. The clove are mostly used as anti-microbial agent, anti-inflammatory agent, anesthetic agent and also have a analgesic, antioxidant and anticancer properties. Some other special activities are mosquito repellant, insecticides and antipyretic effect. Keywords: Syzygium aromaticum, Toothache, Buccal mucosa, Drug Delivery, Buccal patches, Odontalgia.
