CRITICAL STUDY OF PATHYA-APATHYA OF GHRUTA-TAILA FROM PATHYAPATHYASANGRAH AND BRIHATTRAYEE

. Abstract The drugs and regimens that are not harmful to the body are Pathya; those that are adversely affected are Apathya. For long dietary guidelines, it is recommended to avoid foods rich in saturated fat like Ghruta and Taila, which are considered the culprit of diabetes, CVD, stroke, etc. Contradictory to the modern medical sciences, Ayurveda advocated to numerous benefits of usage of Ghruta and Taila judiciously. The study was done based on a literary review and observations of Pathyapathyasangrah compared with Brihattrayee. The study was done by the collection of data, which was further classified, analyzed, and evaluated to understand the Ghruta and Taila as Pathya and Apathya in diseases. In Pathyapathyasangrah total of 65 diseases are explained with their treatment principle, Pathya and Apathya. Ghruta explained Pathya in 28 diseases and as Apathya in 4 diseases, while Taila mentioned Pathya in 9 diseases and as Apathya in 2 diseases. E.g., Tila taila is used as Pathya in Krimiroga whereas Ghruta is told as Apathya, Snehas are Apathya in Chchardi, Trishna and Puran ghruta is Pathya in Kasa, and Shwasa. The study also compared different Sneha Kalpana (Ghruta, taila, vasa, majja) from Samhita as it is used under the considerations of Agni, Doshas, and Dhatus. Pathyapathyasangrah is used for the study of Ghruta and Taila as Pathya and Apathya in different diseases using its treatment principle. Ayurveda is the science of health, suggesting various theories and principles for the achievement of a healthy life. Medicated Taila and Ghruta are some of the important dosage forms widely described in Ayurvedic medicines. The consideration of Pathya (Wholesome) and Apathya (Unwholesome) not only helps to retain a healthy status but also prevents the pathogenesis of various diseases.
