Shilpa Thakur, Amandeep Kaur, Amanpreet Kaur* and Naresh Singh Gill
. Abstract Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a leading factor in chronic liver damage worldwide, often accompanied by a significant association with metabolic syndrome, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular ailments. NAFLD is a complex condition that raises the chances of developing other serious diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and chronic kidney problems. There are only a handful of medications to tackle the rising problem of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and its more severe stage, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). herbal medicines have been used for ages to treat various symptoms in indigenous populations, even though they didn't understand effects of these medicines on NAFLD. Nowadays, as we better understand NAFLD as a common chronic illness, there's more focus on studying its causes and progression. Traditional herbal medicines are now getting more attention as potential treatments for NAFLD. Our goal was to check how well natural compounds from food and plants work in treating NAFLD. Recent studies have extensively investigated certain combinations of herbs and individual components for their potential in treating NAFLD. In our review, we identified several herbal derivatives that have been the focus of significant scientific and/or clinical research. These include wolfberry polysaccharide, garlic-derived compounds, resveratrol from red grapes, and compounds from milk thistle, all of which are associated with NAFLD treatment. Both pre-clinical research and clinical trials have shown that these derivatives specifically target the events that contribute to the development and progression of NAFLD. Moreover, they offer additional health benefits and appear to be free from noticeable side effects when used in the treatment of NAFLD.
