EVALUATION OF NEPHROPROTECTIVE ACTIVITY OF ETHANOLIC LEAVES EXTRACT OF ARTOCARPUS HETEROPHYLLUS (JACKFRUIT) ON NEOMYCIN INDUCED NEPHROTOXICITY IN RATS
Lalit Kumar Shah*, Mohammed Vazir, Priyanka R. and Priyanka C.
. Abstract Background and Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the nephroprotective effects of Ethanolic Extract of Artocarpus heterophyllus (EEAH) leaves on neomycin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. Neomycin is known to cause renal damage, leading to elevated levels of various markers such as blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, urea, total protein, albumin, and creatinine. Artocarpus heterophyllus, commonly known as Jackfruit, is recognized for its medicinal properties, particularly its potential nephroprotective effects. Methodology: The study utilized two different doses of EEAH extract (200 mg/kg/p.o and 400 mg/kg/p.o) to assess their impact on renal function markers and histopathological changes in neomycin-treated rats. Results indicated that EEAH extract treatment led to significant decreases in the levels of renal function markers and histopathological improvements compared to the toxic control group. Moreover, the study suggested a dose-dependent effect of EEAH extract onnephroprotection. Conclusion: This research contributes valuable insights into the potential therapeutic application of Artocarpus heterophyllus leaves in mitigating neomycin-induced nephrotoxicity and underscores the importance of further investigation into its mechanisms of action. Keywords: Ethanolic Extract of Artocarpus heterophyllus, Nephrotoxicity. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
