A CASE STUDY ON THE MANAGEMENT OF PSORIASIS (KITIBHA) IN AYURVEDIC INTERVENTION

. Abstract Background: Psoriasis is a chronic, non-infectious, autoimmune, multisystem inflammatory disease with skin and joint involvement. It is characterized by well-defined erythematous plaques with silvery scales. The worldwide prevalence rate of psoriasis according to W.H.O. is 1 to 2% of the total population. Psoriasis is classified under Kitibha in Ayurveda, while other skin conditions are covered under Kushtha. Aim: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Ayurvedic treatment, particularly Shodhana (purification) and Shamana Chikitsa (palliative therapy) together in Kitibha. Materials and Methods: This single case study deals with a 44-year-old male patient diagnosed with Kitibha. The patient has complained of redblackish- white circular lesions over the scalp, back, bilateral elbow, lower limb, and thigh region associated with powdery discharge and itching for 14 years. He was advised for Abhyanga, Swedana, Vamana, Virechana Karma along with Shamana treatment. Results and Conclusion: There is no satisfactory treatment available for psoriasis in Contemporary science. Repeated Shodhana Chikitsa emphasized the treatment of Kushtha (Kitibha) in all ancient Ayurvedic texts. In this article, a case of Kitibha is presented which was treated successfully with Ayurvedic management. In the above case study after one - month patient got satisfactory relief from all symptoms of Kitibha. Keywords: Psoriasis, Kitibha, Shodhan Chikitsa, Vamana, Virechana.
