FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL ANTIFUNGAL NAIL LACQUER FOR THE TREATMENT OF ONYCHOMYCOSIS

. Abstract Around 19% of the world population is suffering from onychomycosis among which 80% cases of onychomycosis have affected to nails. The infection is associated with proximal sublegal onychomycosis distal end primary total dystreptic onychomycosis. The objective of the present study is to formulated and evaluated the anti fungal nail lacquer using various herbal excipients. Nail lacquer was prepared by using polyvinyl pyrrolidine, formaldehyde, ethyl acetate, castor oil and various mixture of extract of Psidium Guajava, Cissus quadrangularis acts as antifungal agents and beet root and curcuma longa used as colouring agent. Herbal nail lacquer were evaluated for apperance, non-volatile study, lacquer, film thickness, drying time, gloss, smoothness flow, water resistance test. Herbal nail lacquer shows good antifungal activity. It could be a good choice of antifungal agent and accepted by patient due to natural appeal.
