. Abstract Postoperative care is a crucial part of the healing process .It helps in assisting patients in regaining the strength and health, enabling them to return to their everyday life. Analgesics are indicated for postoperative pain management, but use may be precluded by the report of adverse drug reactions (ADRs). Postoperative orthopaedic surgery are painful surgical procedures. Effective postoperative pain management leads to a better and earlier functional recovery and prevents chronic pain. Studies on control of pain during postoperative period are not common. The aim of the study is to present results of postoperative analgesics effectiveness and their Adverse drug reactions in a tertiary care hospital. 100 patients administered with analgesics were analysed for Postoperative pain using Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). A very good control of postoperative pain with the use of analgesics were obtained. 11 ADRs were recorded and most ADRs reported were Mild to Moderate based on Hartwigscale and found to be possible based on Naranjo’s scale. Chi-square test was done to find the association of ADRs with preventability and the results show that there was no significant association (X2 = 11.00, P = 0.027). Keywords: Analgesics, Adverse drug reaction, postoperative pain, Effectiveness, Numerical Rating Scale. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
