FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH PREGNANCY OUT COMES

Abstract Objective (s): To determine factors associated with pregnancy outcome among sample of pregnant women. To identify factors associated with the pregnancy outcome (Maternal age, education, obstetrical history, gravidity, birth space interval, complication current pregnancy, gynecological problem, smoking and coffee drinking). Methodology: A cross-sectional study conducted at teaching Baghdad hospital and al_yarmouk teaching hospital. The sample was selected by (non probability convenient sampling) and sample size was (550). The study started from 1" March 2012 to 1" of March 2013. The data was collected by direct interview using special questionnaire to obtained socio-demographic information. Results: the result shows that mean age of the subjects was 20-24 years, 79.3% were housewives, the sample included 167 live birth, 84 still birth, 117 miscarriage, 99 low birth weight and 65 preterm birth. Analysis of results by chi-square test show that (obstetrical history, complication current during pregnancy and gynecology problem) were significant factors associated with pregnancy outcome. Recommendations: Good antenatal care for identification of risk group and complication, pre pregnancy counseling to reduce weight and improve nutritional status of mother.
