FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF NATURAL TOPICAL GEL FOR THE TREATMENT OF ACNE VULGARIS

. Abstract Acne is a disease characterized by inflammatory and noninflammatory lesions. The pathogenesis includes various factors like hormonal, bacterial and immunological, which causes acne lesions. Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis have been recognized as pus-forming bacteria triggering an inflammation in acne. The Present research work deals with the Formulation and evaluation of natural topical gel for the treatment of acne vulgaris containing hydro alcoholic extract of Lantana camara. They contain several medicinal properties that include it benignant-diabetic, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti- inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic and with hepaticprotective properties. The aim of this study was to overcome the antibiotic resistance and side effects of synthetic drugs by avoiding use of synthetic agents. In vitro antibacterial activity was performed against S. aureus, using agar well diffusion method. The prepared gel were evaluated for pH, viscosity, spreadability, washability, drug content, chemical tests, skin irritancy and in vitro antimicrobial test. The results from the agar well diffusion showed that formulation containing herbal extract of lantana camara would inhibit the growth of S. aureus and gel showed significance antimicrobial activity against bacteria This research work is essential for understanding of all aspects of herbal anti-acne gel.
