MAINTAINING OCULAR HEALTH WITH THE HELP OF NETRAPRASADAN KARMA - ANJANA: LITERATURE REVIEW

. Abstract Purpose of Ayurveda is "Swasthasya Swastha Rakshanam and Aaturasya Vikarparimoksh” i.e. maintaining the good health of one who is healthy and relieving the one who is suffering from the disease.[1] Shalakyatantra is one of the branch of Ashtanga Ayurveda specifically for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of all the diseases occurring above the Neck such as eyes, ear, nose, mouth and head i.e. mainly the sense organ. Eye is most important sense organ as 80% of what we perceive comes through our sense of sight and hence, eye holds a special status among all the sense organ. So, preventive and curative measures must be done for maintaining ocular health. In Samhita, Acharya Sushruta explained about kriyakalpa i.e. the local procedures of netra. Kriyakalpa is specialized topical ocular procedures/ methods of preparation management of diseases of eye and Anjana is one among them. Keywords: Anjana, Shalakyatantra, Kriyakalpa.
