AN OVERVIEW ON OTC MEDICATION SAFETY: EDUCATION AND RISK MITIGATION

Abstract Several substances that were once exclusively promoted as prescription drugs are now available as over-the-counter (OTC) medications for self-medication in recent years. Alongside this, consumer behaviour has shifted to include self-care, and the government has pledged to limit the growth of health care expenses. OTC product safety and safe usage are key factors in their widespread distribution, which coincides with a decline in medical supervisioIn recent years, a number of chemicals that were previously only marketed as prescription prescriptions have been available as over-the-counter (OTC) treatments for self-medication. Concurrently, self-care has become a more important part of consumer behaviour, and the government has promised to slow the rise in health care costs.
