MILLETS IN DIABETES MELLITUS - A CASE STUDY

. Abstract The increasing prevalence of diabetes is linked to changing lifestyles, with sedentary habits and poor dietary choices contributing to the rise. Chronic stress worsens the situation. Combating this lifestyle-related health issue requires various measures. Addressing it as a lifestyle disorder, modifications in diet and lifestyle are essential for good glycaemic control. Ayurveda suggests millets as a suitable dietary option for managing various diseases, emphasizing the role of holistic approaches in maintaining health and preventing illnesses. Millets are packed with numerous health benefits and antioxidant properties and are a great source of dietary fibre. On the glycaemic index (GI), they have a mean score of 52.7, which is lower than the values for rice, maize, and refined wheat flour.
