AN AYURVEDIC APPROACH TO KUNAKHA W.S.R. TO ONYCHOLYSIS: A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Oncholysis is when your nail separates from its nail bed. It often appears after an injury to your nail, but it may have other causes, including fungi. It typically only affects one nail. Onycholysis causes your nail to peel away from the nail bed. It usually does not cause any pain. Symptoms may include white or yellow nail discoloration, thickening of the nail, dents or pits in nail, crumbling nails and separation of the nail from the nail bed. In Ayurveda, Oncholysis are referred to as "Kunakha”. is a condition mentioned in Kshudra Roga as vitiation of Vata-Pitta Dosha along with Rakta Dushti, localized in the muscles surrounding nails, lead to Nakha Dushti. The present case study showing Kunakha condition(oncholysis), resistant to contemporary therapy, demonstrated encouraging results after the consecutive approach of Shodhan therapy i.e virechan decided according to chikitsa sutra followed by Shaman therapy i.e “Shaman snehpan” as per dhatu dushti. The treatment showed positive outcomes in clinical symptoms as well as a notable change in appearance.
