Abstract

Nanoparticles (NPs) are solid particles or dispersions with sizes ranging from 10 to 1000 nm, within which drugs can be dissolved, entrapped, encapsulated, or attached. Green synthesis is defined as a process of using biologically friendly elements such as plants, microbes etc. for the synthesis of nanoparticles and it is superior to traditional approaches due to their reduced failure rates, lower costs, and easier characterization. The utilization of diverse medicinal plants in the green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles has demonstrated significant therapeutic properties, including antimicrobial, insecticidal, antioxidant, wound healing, antidiabetic, immunomodulatory, hepatoprotective, and anticancer activities. The pods of Pisum Sativum (Green pea) often disregarded as waste, originating from food industries, represent a plentiful source of natural food bioactive, polysaccharides and phenolic antioxidants. This project aims to synthesize the copper and silver nanoparticles using an eco-friendly approach by utilizing extract from pea pods from which the biomolecules can act as reducing and capping agents during the nanoparticle synthesis process. This method offers a green alternative to conventional chemical synthesis methods that often involve harsh chemicals and generate hazardous byproducts. The copper and silver nanoparticles using green pea pod extract was synthesized successfully. UV spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and antibacterial activity was in consideration while evaluating the nanoparticles. The antibacterial activity indicates that the extract of green pea pods shows potential antibacterial activity against pathogen E. Coli ensuring bioactive compounds useful in medicine. These nanoparticles might be well developed as novel antibacterial substances for the treatment of bacterial infection and further investigation is needed to understand drug release and mechanism of action.
