Abstract

The purpose of the present research work was to formulate and evaluate anti aging herbal cream. The majority of existing creams which has prepared from drugs of synthetic origin. Apart from its primary objectives, it has several side effects such as itching or allergic reactions. To that end, we planned to formulate anti aging herbal cream with minimizing the use of synthetic agents. In this study, cream was formulated based on the anti-oxidant potential of herbal extract of Pomegranate (Punica grantum) fruit peel. The powder of Pomegranate peels were shade dried and extracted with different solvents such as water and alcohol. Bees wax, Almond oil, olive oil, Sandal wood powder contributes the rest part of the cream. By changing the concentrations of above ingredients we formulated 4 different formulations namely F1 to F4. The above prepared herbal creams were evaluated for their physical parameters such as pH, homogeneity, appearance, spreadability and type of cream along with stability examination. After the evaluation, we found good properties for the creams (Formulation2, F2) and maintained its consistency even after stability storage conditions. The DPPH study result also a supporting document for the antioxidant activity of our extract. The activity is directly proportional to the concentration of extract. The creams were found to be stable during stability studies according to ICH guidelines. It can be concluded that herbal creams having antioxidant property will have enough potential to give a barrier to protect the skin and avoid aging of the skin. As per the previous literature Anthocyanin is the primary ingredient in pomegranate that is responsible for its anti aging properties. The overall study is useful to substantiate the product claim due to its useful benefits on the anti aging activity.
