Abstract

Chewable tablets are an innovative dosage form designed to facilitate medication intake, particularly for children and individuals who have difficulty swallowing. These tablets are intended to be chewed and broken down in the mouth, ensuring rapid dissolution either with or without additional chewing. They are typically formulated with a smooth texture and a pleasant, fruity flavor to avoid any bitter aftertaste, enhancing patient compliance and acceptance. Chewable dosage forms, such as tablets, soft pills, and chewable gums, offer several advantages over conventional solid dosage forms. They provide good bioavailability, improved patient compliance due to the elimination of the need for water, and faster onset of action. These characteristics are particularly beneficial for pediatric and geriatric patients who may struggle with swallowing larger pills. The development of chewable tablets continues to be important due to the need for patient-friendly drug delivery systems. These tablets are manufactured using wet granulation or direct compression processes, incorporating active ingredients and excipients that improve their ingestion properties. Evaluation methods for chewable tablets include both physical tests (appearance, hardness, friability, disintegration, and dissolution) and chemical tests (drug content, dosage uniformity, in vitro and in vivo testing) to ensure quality and efficacy. By addressing the specific needs of various patient populations, chewable tablets bridge the gap between patient preference and medication adherence, enhancing the overall effectiveness of treatment regimens. / By catering to the specific needs of different patient groups, chewable tablets play a crucial role in enhancing medication adherence and overall treatment outcomes.
