FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF ORODISPERSIBLE TABLETS - MECLIZINE HCL
Swapnil R. Dudhakohar*, Shraddha R. Wasnik, Ratikesh A. Wawarkar3, Yogesh N. Nikalaje
Abstract Orally Disintegrating Tablets (ODTs) offer a convenient and rapid drug delivery system, eliminating the need for water. This study focused on developing ODTs containing 25 mg of Meclizine hydrochloride, a medication used to treat vertigo and motion sickness. To achieve rapid disintegration, the formulation incorporated Microcrystalline Cellulose as a Diluent and Crosspovidone XL as a Superdisintegrant. Magnesium stearate was included as a Lubricant. The tablets were produced using the Direct compression method. The resulting ODTs were evaluated against Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) standards for key parameters such as Hardness, Friability, and Disintegration time. Importantly, the drug content of all tablets was found to be within an acceptable range of 97.6% to 99.8% of the labeled Meclizine Hydrochloride amount, indicating accurate drug delivery. Keywords: Disintegration, Meclizine Hydrochloride, Excipient, Vertigo and Motion sickness. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
