NANOSPONGES: A NOVEL APPROACH OF DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM
Iyer Dhanya Krishnakumar* and Punya Prakash
. Abstract The recent advance in nanotechnology has lead to the development of targeted drug delivery system. However, targeting a molecule to a particular site using a drug delivery system effectively requires a specialized drug delivery system. As they can hold both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs, the development of nanosponge has shown to be a key stride in addressing issues with drug toxicity, low bioavailability, and predictable drug release. The main issue that the researchers are dealing with is the targeted medication delivery to specified areas. The development of new colloidal carrier called nanosponges has the potential to solve these problems. Nanosponge is a novel and emerging technology which offers controlled drug delivery for topical use. One of the most exciting scientific approaches is this tailored medicine delivery system. They are small in size and have a nanometric depression and three-dimensional arrangement. Nano sponges have a remarkable ability to assure dynamic particles and provide programmable distribution, and they are very permeable. The preparation process, characterisation, and possible applications in drug delivery systems are highlighted in this paper. Keywords: Targeted drug delivery system, Nanosponges, drug toxicity, Bioavailability, hydrophilic drug, hydrophobic drug. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
