MANAGEMENT OF ARSHA WITH PALASH KSHARSUTRA – A CASE STUDY

Abstract Now a days Arsha disease is very common at any age of the individual. The patient experiences physical, emotional and social embarrassment in society. Arsha can be compared with haemorrhoids or piles in modern science, the incidence of haemorrhoids apparently increases with age and in India it seems likely to about 50% of people have some degree of haemorrhoids over the age of fifty. According to sex men are two times more affected than women, however the older ones are also affected to haemorrhoids than children, worldwide overall prevalence of haemorrhoids in the general population is estimated to be 4.4 %.[1] In Ayurvedic classics, Arsha is considered as one of the Ashta Mahagada because of its severity due to blood loss. The Mansankur which give pain like an enemy by obstructing the anal passage, that is called Arsha, Vatadi doshas vitiate the Tvak, Mans & Meda and produce different sizes of Mansankur in the anus.[2] Acharya Sushruta has been described six type of Arsha Vataja, Pittaja, Kaphaja, Sannipataja, Raktaja and Sahaja. Acharya Chakradutta mentioned Ksharasuta ligation in Arsha.[3] While medical management is primarily advocated for uncomlicated haemorrhoids and focuses upon improvement of digestion, easy evacuation and correction of bowel habits.
