Abstract

MANAGEMENT OF WARTS THROUGH AYURVEDA: A CASE REPORT

Dr. Sonali Rawat*, Prof. C. R. Yadav and Dr. Rashmi Prakash Gurao

Abstract

Warts are benign growths of skin & mucosa caused due to the human papillomavirus. They are harmless generally and may be bothersome/painful sometimes. The prevalence rate of warts among the general population is 2-30%. They are more common in young people. An increased frequency is also seen among immunosuppressed patients which is common in both males and females. According to Ayurveda, warts can be correlated as Charmakila mentioned under kshudraroga and on the basis of classical symptoms it is analogous to filiform warts. Excision, Electrosurgery, Cryotherapy, and Cantharidin are some of the local treatments for warts. Although these treatments can remove the warts, they may cause hypo or hyperpigmentation of that area. Sometimes laser treatments, chemical peels, injections, and immunotherapy are also used. In Ayurveda texts, various internal medications and local applications are described that are beneficial for the treatment of filiform warts. This case study signifies the efficacy of Ayurvedic internal medication and external therapy described in Ayurvedic texts in the treatment of warts. Aim: To observe the effects of Ayurvedic formulation in Charmakila (Filiform warts). Case- A 30-year-old male patient came to the outdoor patient department in the hospital with the complaint of a bunch of warts present in the chin area and neck region for nine months. The patient underwent two-month treatment regimen involving both internal and external Ayurvedic medications, resulting in the effective eradication of warts without any occurrence of hypo or hyper-pigmented scarring. Complete remission of the warts was observed, indicating that Ayurvedic medicines can successfully manage this condition, without any visible side effects as evidenced by the outcome of this case report.
