FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF MOUTH-DISSOLVING FILMS PROPRANOLOL HYDROCHLORIDE
Ashutosh Sengar, Yadav Suchitra* and Dr. S. K. Niranjan
. Abstract Oral fast-dissolving sublingual films offer a promising route for drug delivery, particularly for medications requiring rapid onset of action. In this study, we aimed to formulate and evaluate an oral fast-dissolving sublingual film of Propranolol HCl, a widely used beta-blocker. The films were prepared using a solvent-casting method with hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as film-forming agents. Various concentrations of HPMC and PVP were explored to optimize film characteristics such as disintegration time, mechanical properties, and drug release profile. The films were evaluated for physical appearance, thickness, weight variation, drug content uniformity, surface pH, in vitro dissolution. The optimized formulation exhibited rapid disintegration ( Keywords: Propranolol HCl, oral fast-dissolving film, sublingual delivery, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, polyvinylpyrrolidone, formulation, evaluation, rapid disintegration, drug release, permeation.
