A REVIEW OF VARIOUS FORMULATIONS WITH KOROSANANI DOCUMENTED IN CLASSICAL SIDDHA LITERATURE
P. Ananthi* and Anthony Duraichi R.
. Abstract Background: Siddha medicine utilizes products from three sources: vegetable, inorganic, and animal. Animal-derived products, including korosanai (a bright pigment), are valued for their therapeutic properties, particularly in treating urinary diseases, fever, and heart conditions. Aim: This study aims to document various formulations containing korosanai mentioned in classical Siddha literature. Materials and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted at the Government Siddha Medical College Library and The District Central Library, Tirunelveli. Korosanai-related medications were identified using keyword searches in authenticated Siddha publications. Data were summarized using statistical analysis. Results: The review revealed that korosanai is commonly used in preparations for mathirai (internal medicine) and thailam (external medicine). Mathirai formulations were more prevalent among internal medicines, while thailam was more common among external medicines. Conclusion: This study highlights the presence of various korosanai variants in Siddha classics, with only a few currently in practice. A comprehensive review of korosanai medicinal preparation methods is necessary. This study serves as a foundation for compiling information on korosanai, facilitating future research. Keywords: Korosanai, literature review, internal medicines, external medicines, mathirai, thailam. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
