A PHYTO-PHARMACOLOGICAL REVIEW ON SIDDHA POLYHERBAL FORMULATION OF “KURUTHI AZHALUKU CHOORANAM†FOR KURUTHI AZHAL NOI (HYPERTENSION)

Abstract Hypertension is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease and premature death worldwide. Owing to the widespread use of antihypertensive medications, global mean blood pressure (BP) has remained constant or has decreased slightly over the past four decades.[1] The prevalence of total hypertension increased with age, from 9% of adults aged 16 to 44 to 60% of adults aged 65 and over. Kuruthi azhaluku chooranam is a Siddha poly-herbal formulation that is indicated for Kuruthi azhal noi (Hypertension) and it is a sastric preparation mentioned in Siddha literature Yugi vaiththiya chinthamani perunool 800, Part-1, page no-252. This review deals with taxonomical classification, active principles, pharmacological activity, and therapeutic uses of ingredients of Kuruthi azhaluku chooranam.
