Abstract Effervescent tablets are increasingly popular due to their ease of use and rapid onset of action, achieved through the reaction of acidic substances with carbonates or bicarbonates in water, enhancing API solubility and masking flavors. Despite challenges like bulkiness and uncontrolled reaction rates, these tablets offer significant advantages. This review examines the benefits and drawbacks of effervescent tablets, their common reactions, suitable active ingredients, and manufacturing processes. It also highlights recent advancements in effervescent technology and the potential for these tablets in drug delivery systems, including sustained and controlled release preparations.
