ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY TEST OF TRANSPARENT SOLID SOAP FROM ETHANOL EXTRACT OF GINGER EMPRIT (ZINGIBER OFFICINALE VAR AMARUM) AGAINST STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS AND PROPIONIBACTERIUM ACNES
Rahmayulis and Tika Afriani*
Abstract The skin functions to receive stimuli such as touch, pain, and other influences from the outside. Skin that is not maintained healthy can cause various skin diseases, one of which is acne. Acne can be found on the face, neck, back, and chest. One of the causes of acne on the skin is infection with Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes. These bacteria can clog the sebaceous ducts, causing acne. Emprit Ginger Ethanol Extract Transparent Solid Soap contains flavonoids, saponins, and essential oils that can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The method used is the disc diffusion method. The principle used is to place paper discs that have been given antibiotics with a certain concentration on the media that has been planted with the test microorganisms evenly. The microorganisms used were Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes. The sample to be tested is a transparent solid soap from ethanol extract of ginger Emprit which has 4 formulas: formula 0 (without ginger extract), formula 1 (ginger extract 1.56 g), formula 2 (ginger extract 3.12 g), and formula 3 (ginger extract 4.68 g). Positive control used clindamycin 150 mg, and negative control used sterile distilled water. The results of the antibacterial activity test against Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes showed that the transparent solid soap ethanol extract of ginger emprit formula 3 had the largest diameter of the inhibition zone and was included in the strong category. Keywords: Antibacterial activity, Emprit Ginger, Propionibacterium acnes, Transparent solid soap, Staphylococcus aureus. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
