SOLID DISPERSIONS AS STRATEGY TO IMPROVE SOLUBILITY AND DISSOLUTION RATE OF WATER INSOLUBLE DRUGS
Jayendra Chunduru* and Pavankumar Chadalawada
. Abstract Solid dispersions represent a pivotal advancement in pharmaceutical formulation, designed to address challenges posed by poorly watersoluble drugs. These formulations involve the uniform distribution of one or more active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) within a solid matrix, typically comprising polymers, sugars, or other carriers. The primary objective of solid dispersions is to enhance drug solubility and thereby improve bioavailability and therapeutic efficacy. This abstract explores the classification of solid dispersions and various techniques employed in the preparation of solid dispersions, including melting, solvent evaporation, co-precipitation, spray drying, etc. characterization of solid dispersions, polymers used in solid dispersions, and the applications of solid dispersions. ultimately contributing to the development of more effective pharmaceutical products with enhanced therapeutic outcomes. Keywords: Solid dispersions, solubility, bioavailability, poorly water soluble drugs. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
