DESIGNING AND VALIDATION OF KOSTHA ASSESSMENT SCALE
Dr. Pallabi Manjari Singha* and Dr. Parameshwar G. H.
. Abstract The present clinical study is planned to develop a scale to assess the Kostha. Kostha is accredited in the scripture as Mahasrotas (the great channel), Sharira Madhya (central Section of the body), Mahanimna (the lower most part of the body) and Amapakvashaya (stomach & intestine). The term Kostha is expressed in context of bowel habit and clinically it is classified into three types Mridu, Madhyama and Krura. Regarding the assessment of Kostha i.e bowel habit should be examined by considering the frequency, consistency, straining during defecation etc. Aim & Objectives: The aim of this study is to design and validate the Kostha Assessment Scale (K.A scale) in a sample of 30 healthy individuals. Design: A cross-sectional survey study. Methods: The Kostha Assessment scale has been designed and validated by reliability and validity tests like Face Validity, Content validity, and Construct validity. The reliability analysed by the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient i.e 0.865 and KMO Bartlett’s test value is 0.871. The Exploratory Factor Analysis was carried out with Kaiser's criteria for the extraction of factors with Varimax rotation. Results: Kostha Assessment in this study sample reproduced the similar structure of the original Face validity, Content validity, and Construct validity met the standards, internal consistency was excellent with KMO Bartlett’s Test value 0.871 and Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient 0.865 which is highly significant.
