Abstract
This work covers the extraction of oil from seed of (Ricinus communis)
by solvent extraction using hexane. The oil extraction was also
characterized and the results obtained were as follows: Free fatty acid
value (7.20mg/g), Saponification value (178mg/g), Acid value
(0.12mg/g), Iodine value (58 mg/g), specific gravity at 25oC (0.948g)
and the pH value (5.776). The results obtained from this analysis
showed that Ricinus communis oil can be used in the production of
medicine, paints, varnishes, soap, shampoo, lubricants and fertilizers.
